About Miniature Schnauzers
The Miniature Schnauzer dog is probably one of the best family pets you could find. He is a loving and friendly dog who craves attention and company. Although small, he is not a toy dog. His sturdy build and smart looks make Miniature Schnauzers particularly handsome pets.
As with virtually every breed of dog, the exact roots of the Miniature Schnauzer are not known. However, it is generally thought that the Miniature Schnauzer has been bred since the late 19th Century when standard Schnauzers where crossed with Affenpinschers or possibly Poodles. The Miniature Schnauzer didn't come to the UK until the late 1920's when Schnauzers were imported from Holland.
Appearance
The Miniature Schnauzer is a distinctive and handsome dog. Its most instantly recognisable feature is it bushy eyebrows and long beards.
Miniature Schnauzers
are sturdy and robust looking dogs with an almost square appearance thanks
to the length of their body equal to their height at the shoulders. This
gives the Miniature Schnauzer a look of distinction and intelligence.
The Miniature Schnauzer's coat is wiry and the dogs' coats do not moult. Their coats come in four colours: Black, Pepper and Salt, and Black and Silver. Pepper and Salt is the most common colour to be found in Miniature Schnauzers although the popularity of each colour does vary from time to time.
Temperament
The Miniature Schnauzer doesn't just look intelligent; they are alert and
clever, lively and mischievous.
In many ways they are the perfect family dog. They thrive on attention and are quick to learn vocal commands. Eager to please they will fit in well with your family routines and habits. Minis also make and excellent guard dog for your family as they are quick to bark at a stranger but but do not become aggressive.
The dogs are very energetic and can sometimes become bored if not given the attention that they crave. Regular exercise and a proper diet are essential to keep your Miniatur Schnauzer from become bored and destructive.
Miniature Schnauzers are a breed of dog that likes to be with people, and they do best when they are with the family most of the time.
